About the Nativity and Christmas
The History of the Nativity and the Christmas Story
In 1223 St. Francis of Assisi lamented that Christmas had become materialistic ! Imagine that 800 years ago. (And Americans thought we invented materialism) He created a representation of what the birth of Christ was like, to help people understand that solemn event: God the son, came to earth as a new born baby.
The origin of our modern day Christmas comes from the Christ Mass -- the church service celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ. It's very common to celebrate "Christmas" without even knowing about the miraculous events surrounding the Birth and why we celebrate it 2000 years later. Learn more about the Christmas Story.

Nativity Tour Christmas Tree Ornaments
Each year we offer a customized ornament that focuses on the Nativity. The 2025 ornament is called the Christmas Cross because it tells the Cross contains minute carvings that tell story of the nativity. It's creator also wrote a poem about. A limited number are available for purchase for $10 at selected Merchants participating in the Leesburg Nativity Tour.
Here are pictures of past ornaments, available for $5 at Trinity House Cafe and also displayed on the Christmas Tree in the Clothing Closet on Church Street.
